Programs

The chapter meets once a month, September through May, either on the first Wednesday of the month or on a Saturday, at various locations in Durham.  Our regular meetings usually include refreshments, brunch or lunch, the opening ritual, an interesting and informative program, and a business meeting.

Our chapter programs feature themes in keeping with DAR’s mission, including history, patriotism, education, service, and genealogy. Our speakers have included regionally and nationally known figures, as well as DAR members from our own and other chapters. We strive to present a variety of topics, which in recent years have included the 19th Amendment, advice on healthy aging, the experiences of helicopter pilots in Vietnam and the Women’s Army Corps in World War II, the Greensboro civil rights sit-in, a public school reading program, a program to provide service dogs to veterans, and various topics of Colonial and North Carolina history. Our historically themed holiday programs have featured local high school choirs, and we have ended the year with a picnic.
