Our Patriots

Patriots were those who resided in the thirteen colonies and rejected British rule. They were from every social, economic, and ethnic background. Lawyers, students, planters, merchants, farmers, enslaved people, and freemen were among those who fought for independence.

Patriots served in many different capacities, including patriotic and civil service, not just on the battlefield or at sea. Patriots included those who served in civic capacities as town clerks, selectmen, constables, or surveyors of highways. Patriotic service also included signing an Oath of Allegiance or paying taxes to support the cause.

Listed below are the names and states of the ancestors of the General Davie Chapter, NSDAR, members. This list includes ancestors that fought in the American Revolutionary War and those who contributed to the cause for independence through civil or patriotic service.

For a list of acceptable services, see the Accepted Revolutionary War Service webpage for more information.
